Yeah, that looks amazing for the money. I have a Dell laptop, similar processor, but only half that amount of RAM. It works fine for editing my RAW 5KMII images while on the road. I wouldn't want to use it for a day-to-day machine though. My laptop is running XP. Windows 7 is supposed to be very efficient, so you gain some there as well. I've kind of grown accustomed to wide-format screens, and this one isn't from the looks of it. Still, for a travel laptop for backing up your pics and editing a few shots on the road, it would do fine. Day-to-day machine, no. :nah

Thanks for the input. We need a mobile piece for when we travel. Light duty, e-mail interface, simple~
I have had instances where we had to get a 64 bit programs because the 32 bit program said it was incompatible.
here is part of an article
The four things that make 64-bit Vista inadvisable for ordinary users are:
1: No compatibility with old 16-bit Windows apps. This means ancient Windows 3.x software, which most people don't run any more, but 16-bit code can still pop up in the darndest places. Like, for instance, in the installer programs for other apps.
2: Various and assorted application compatibility problems. This has improved considerably as of early 2008, but there's still no blanket guarantee that a given piece of software - especially an older piece of software - will work in 32-bit Vista, much less 64-bit.
3: No compatibility with existing 32-bit drivers. Everything on your computer will need a new driver. 64-bit WinXP is the same, and there aren't many 64-bit computers on which Vista won't at least install, but 64-bit Windows also has...
4: No support for unsigned kernel-mode drivers.

Do you mind naming the brand and model? I'm in Canada and when I clicked on your link it said I had to log into the Canadian site (which is fine) but I don't know what I'm looking for.

Sure thing (eh?), it is the store: Staples.
I found the deal buy keeping a check on: techbargains.com
Make and model
HP Pavilion dv4-2170us 14.1" Laptop, but be aware that many models are specific to one chain store, so you may not find this exact model anywhere else. But someone else may have essentially the same machine with a different model number.
Once upon a time, they all lived happily ever after.

Thanks. I'll check it out this week-end.
I'd still like to get a MacBook Pro but that will depend on the $$ of course
Hello newsky,
Have you checked compatibility?
Just an FYI for you.
It is always best to check with the software manufacturer FIRST. They will tell you if they have tested the product and the version, as well as whether or not it will work with Windows 7.
Check out the Windows 7 Compatibility site: (There you will find out about hardware and software compatibilty.) http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/en-us/default.aspx
There is a pulldown from which you can choose "hardware" and "software".
There are also some great articles, instructional videos and such to help with your Windows 7 at our Springboard site: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/default.aspx
In any event a lot of the times, Vista drivers will work in lieu of Windows 7 drivers, however, it's not 100%!
As stated previously, it's best to have the Windows 7 certified drivers installed.
Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the threads available there for additional assitance and support.
Thanks again,

A 64 bit OS will run 32 bit apps just fine.

I have not run into one 32 bit app that will not run on my Vista and now Win 7 64 bit machines.....including Photoshop. Nothing more needed to say.
The OP wants a Win 7 laptop...not Vista.
Links Wireless with ease to my Netgear with a 32 bit Vista and a 64 bit Vista Sharing.
uploaded LR3 Beta, smooth Healing brush Strokes, very real-time accurate.
Small, but efficient~:D~ Thanks~
