Smart gallery image deletion

I love the new smart gallery function on the site but have a question about it. Its nice to have the ability to have all photos with certain keywords etc put into another gallery. And I know the theory about how this works and its pointing to only one master file, which leads me to my question. If you delete a photo in a smart gallery or a gallery with smart photos in it, what happens to the original photo that is in the other gallery? Does it get deleted, or does it only delete the reference file in the smart gallery? I ask because their are some photos I wish to get rid of in my smart gallery that are also in the host gallery, but I want them to remain in the host gallery when I delete them from the smart gallery. I hope you can help me out with this, I love knowing the ins and outs of systems.

    Hi Dustin,

I just wanted to update this post as we have discussed this via your email to the help desk. Did that take care of things for you?

Can you answer the questions here? I have set up some smart galleries and they aren't always acting as expected (can't get them to follow all the rules I set up). I would like more info on how they're supposed to work...

Hey Dave, you cannot delete images in a Smart Gallery. You can delete them from the originating gallery but you cannot delete or remove them from a Smart Gallery. If you have questions on a specific gallery or rule you have set up please give us a link to the gallery or describe the rule.

P.S. "Collected" photos can be removed from a gallery: Tools > Many Photos > Delete. The virtual copies are deleted without affecting the originals.

    Thanks BigRed
Phew. Are the 'collected' photos within the gallery in some way identified when going through the Tools/Many Photos/Delete? I ask this as I intend to have a mixture of both originals and collected images in a gallery and would not want to delete an original by mistake.

Yes, they're identified very clearly -- two sets, "Uploaded Photos" and "Collected Photos."

I'm running into this too actually.

Why can't we remove/delete from a Smart Gallery?

I have a slideshow on my homepage that pulls from a smart gallery. The smart gallery pulls all photos keyworded with "slideshow."

I've removed the keyword from a photo I want removed in the original gallery, but it still shows up in the smart gallery and ends up in the slideshow. I thought this would be a nice way to manage my slideshow content, but it looks like I may not be able to.

    Thanks.

Well, somebody did something before I was even able to get a help email off, cuz now it's working by removing the keyword from the original photo. Thanks! Whoever you are.

I think it just takes a short while for the smart gallery to update itself after you change the keywords. It is not always instantaneous.
