I have been jealous of all of you that have been able to post so many great shots of all the water birds (egrets, herons etc) in your respective "wet" home areas. I was finally able to get a relatively decent shot of a bird native to our area: a Great Horned Owl. I believe they migrate back to this area during the late summer to winter here. Guess they like the desert air :):

Good capture. Owls are tough. I didn't get my first owl shot until last week.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Thank you all for your comments. He was not easy to get. I learned last year how easy they spook. It took almost 2 hours to get close enough to get a decent shot.

Hey, great shot! In all the years I've spent viewing birdlife, can count on one hand how many owls I've actually seen. I read somewhere that this year for some unknown reason there has been an "invasion" of owls in the Michigan area. Maybe the one you captured was on his/her way to/from the mid-west owl jamboree. Whatever... sure is a super photo! Congrats!
