Nice to see back at these challenges Virginia! clap.gif

I really like how you "froze" the falling snow and the texture that it adds to the shot.

Thanks, Linda. This was taken the evening of what was supposed to have been a major snow storm here in Boston. Guess I should be glad we ended up with only a dusting, but since the city just about shut down for the day and the plows were ready to go, it would have been nice to have had a bit more snow.

I've been swamped with migrating from PC to Mac while having to stick with a PC for my laptop (which I need for travel) - plus learning to use my new Canon 7D. Also trying to learn Lightroom (new to me) and cope with changes in CS4. There may be enough hours in a day, but every day my poor brain gets fried well before I get half of what I need to get done. The faster I go the behinder I get. rolleyes1.gif

Excellent photo! I like the moody graininess (sp?), and the string of street lights that form a constellation. That would make a strong entry!

Thanks very much Tom, Mark and Tatiana for your comments. It really helps to have different sets of eyes look at a photo.

I will keep shooting, but in the meantime will enter this one.

thumb.gif Was it snowing at the time? Or is that caused by the treatment.

It was snowing. We were supposed to have a big storm that day. The city shut down at 8 a.m. The snow plows were ready. But ....

I went out around 4 and took pictures in the drizzle. It didn't start snowing seni-seriously until almost dark. By then the parking ban had been lifted. I kept waiting for some real snowfall and finally went out around 9:30 p.m.and took pictures with the snow falling. We ended up with very little snow so in the end, for us. the storm was a bust.

Wasn't thinking about the challenge. Just wanting to capture the moment and also interested in experimenting with my new 7D with it's high ISO capabilities..

So, the snow is real as is the noise.I was using ISO 64,000.

That said, I did think, looking at the picture, that it had a look of having been enhanced by post processing in a way that it wasn't. I did sharpen (mid tones) and let the noise add to the mood. Also brightened it a bit. But that's about all.

I like it, but might like at a little better if it were cropped a bit tighter.

Thanks for the suggestion WhatSheSaw. I think you are right and that this is better for the challenge.
