moving a gallery

I moved a gallery into another one and noticed that the link(s) to the old one has been broken. This means that published links will be destroyed when moving a gallery or did I do something wrong?? I solved the problem by leaving the empty gallery with the remark: This gallery has been moved to "Thailand - (ancient) history"

Links that contain the gallery number will still be valid, even if you change the nicename or category/sub-category. But, if you only have the category and gallery name in the link, then obviously when you change those, the link changes.

So, if I have this link:

http://jfriend.smugmug.com/Kenya/Highlights/Landscapes

and I change the category, sub-category or nicename of the gallery, then obviously, the link will be broken because this link no longer points at anything.

But, if I allow the gallery number to stay in the link like this:

http://jfriend.smugmug.com/Kenya/Highlights/Landscapes/5608869_vwzCG

Then, smugmug only looks at the gallery number which does not ever change so, even if the category, sub-category and gallery nicename have all been changed, Smugmug will still find the right gallery via the gallery number.
