hi-

anyone using the 430EX II with the ebay triggers (RD616)? i received mine weeks ago, but ended up not being able to test them until this past weekend. i needed the hotshoe adapter for my 430EX II and finally got it.

anyway, i haven't had any luck getting the triggers to actually fire the flash. the transmitter/receiver LED blinks on the trigger side, so signal is indeed getting to it...but when attached to the flash via the hotshoe adapter and plugged in with the 3.5mm jack...nothing. i've tried various modes on the flash, but nothing seems to trigger it.

one of the three receivers came with a faulty power switch, so only two of them work. no big deal, but that makes me suspect of other problems going on as well.

thanks for any input!

I would suggest trying to plug the sync cord into the camera and the hotshoe adapter. Eliminate the triggers and try that first. If that works than I would blame the triggers, obviously....

But if you are seeing the lights flash then I am guessing a couple other things...

Make sure you flash in manual, not E-TTL or Slave. I messed up like that with my new triggers :)

If possible try different sync cords, might have a bum cord.

If your adapter also have an optical trigger, see if the optical triggers will trigger the flash.

That is about it for my guesses, basically the steps I would do to try to isolate the actual issue.

thank you for the reply...great tips. i tried everything and was still not able to get the flash to fire. ne_nau.gif i suspect the hot shoe adapter is the problem...just not compatible i guess.

Just noticed you have a 7D. if you are just trying to get flash off camera you might be able to get by with the built in master mode on the camera.
Actually the only real reason I would think of upgrading to the 7D from the 50D...

i started off using the built-in controller on my 7D, which is very convenient, but still line-of-sight outdoors. it works fine indoors for what i do, just a bit more limiting.

    thanks again!

I had a similar dilemma with the receivers. I found that if your just letting them hang the connection in the "Jack" gets wonky. take the pressure off the cord and try again, it worked for me. same triggers and hot shoe adapters (I think, the ones Art recommends.)
