Wow what a great group of people you guys have here.. I was pointed to this forum by another user whose friend got a picture of me shooting some pics :)

Had a great time at the event but longed for longer glass :) Conditions were nice, sunny, minimal cloud cover.... It is tough shooting from a boat thats rocking back and forward.. I started with my monopod and ended up putting it away and just handholding..

At the dock in the morning I saw more huge glass than I've ever seen.. At any one time you could count 5-6 600's and 30-40 300 and 400's ... Canons far outnumbered the Nikons..

The boat I went on was packed so I opted to shoot from the roof.. The benefit of being a previous crew member :D:D

All shots were taken with my d700, 300 f/2.8 with 1.4tc anywhere between f/4 -f/5.6 shutterspeeds varied from 1/1600-1/8000 iso 200-400

This was my first time shooting any type of surfing.. All C&C is much appreciated..

Thanks
Doug

wow! incredible waves as usual at Mavericks, and fantastic shots! Especially well done for a first timer.

As for the photogs on the jetskis, that has to be quite the challenge...handling the camera while navigating a jetski, trying to avoid being crushed by those huge waves. Did they have to take the shot, and then race out of harm's way, or were they positioned beyond the breakpoint?

Thanks Chris I had a great time at the event..

Most of the jetski's were right on the edge of the reef... It wasn't bad for them at all from what I could see.. There were at least 5-7 of them with cameras out most of the time... Nevertheless they did not seemed worried one bit :)

I'm amazed at the jetski dudes. The spray would seem to be the worst part for the camera.

    Awesome pictures.
