Another 'Galleries not being found by search' thread

Before posting I did search the forum for my issue whereby many of my galleries are not returned when I search for them. The keywords seem to be working fine. Most of my galleries more than a couple of years seem fine, galleries in the last year seem worst affected. I found some other people reporting the same problem over the last year at least and it usually ended with Andy writing "try it now" and all was well. Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Ian

I am so sorry for imprecise reporting.
Search term "noctilux" is not finding my gallery "Leica Noctilux" http://ianspector.smugmug.com/Photography/f1-and-be-there-Leica-Noctilux/11240976_7AUq4#789805533_ggpqG
Search term "Milton" is not finding my gallery "Amersham & Chiltern Milton Keynes Jan 10" http://ianspector.smugmug.com/Sports/Rugby/RugbyMK/11036413_UedjE#772108593_hANEg
Search term "Stubbs" is returning Stubbs Wood correctly http://ianspector.smugmug.com/Landscapes/Stubbs-Wood/1571627_UuLUM#789265838_8XMhm
Search term "Tristan" is not finding my gallery "Tristan photo shoot" http://ianspector.smugmug.com/Portraits/Formal/Tristan-portfolio-shoot/8165905_WEXng#533187573_M2qYw
    etc

It seems my very old galleries are all being found.

Sorry again about the inadequate information.

    Hi Ian,

Sorry you are running into search issues! I've toggled a couple of the settings on your site to see if we can get it to index your newer keywords. Will take a little while, but should index okay. Check back later to see if it's working and, if not, let us know!

    Dear Barb,

You have made a huge improvement. The only gallery not being found is one entitle "f/1 and be there. Leica Noctilux" Thus a smugmug search on Noctilux returns no galleries but all the keyworded images in other galleries. If I search for Leica it does not find this gallery but it finds "Leica M8". If I search for "f/1" I get absolutely nothing, not the gallery nor any of the images that have "f/1.0" as a keyword. If I search for "at f/1.0" it finds none of the images with that exact keyword. I should add that "f/1 and be there. Leica Noctilux" is a smart gallery as that may be a pretty significant factor. The other question could be related to the / symbol.

Thanks for your great help so far.

    Ian,

Actually, keywords don't support special characters like / _ or stuff like that. We just filter the characters out. While the . character seems to show up, the keyword might (at f1.0) be not supported in search as "at" is likely a common word not indexed and f1.0 might be too short and has a special character.

I'm not sure if the / in the gallery title might be causing an issue. i've removed it and maybe you could check back later if that helps bringing the gallery up in search.

    Dear Sebastian,

I am still not getting galleries returned with the word Noctilux in. This morning I created three new test galleries. One called grenbow and another called noctilux and a third called noctiluq. grenbow being a made up word that did not appear on Smugmug at all. noctilux so that we could see if it was somehow the word that was causing problems. Sadly, none of these three galleries show up when I search.

    Many thanks,

    Ian

Just an update; Two of my new galleries appeared in the search (Noctilux and Grenbow) Noctiluq has not yet appeared but I guess it will. The original gallery that started all this, and the one that I really wanted to be found, has not appeared.

This is certainly intriguing. Of the three galleries that I set up yesterday only two are returned by a search (grenbow and noctilux) the gallery noctiluq is not found even after 24 hours. The original "f1 and be there. Leica Noctilux" gallery remains impervious to gallery search.

It certainly seems if we are on our own. They seem to be normally very responsive so I am sure that they are a little tied up at the moment.

RichW has your mails and will answer you. BUT Nancy- it's really, really important to only post in one place - posting in many threads on Dgrin, and emailing the help desk, confuses things and makes us work double or triple.... stay tuned.

I took a look at the gallery and it looks like it's a 'smart gallery' and all the photos are from other galleries.
It's looking like the search function 'thinks' this is an empty gallery and it's not including it in searches.

I'm going to ask one of our engineers to take a look to see if this is a 'bug'.

That is very interesting. One of my test Galleries was equally smart the one called 'noctilux' with exactly the same rule and that populated within seconds and is found doing a gallery search. I have filed a help request as Andy suggested. I am sure that you are right that it thinks some are empty when they are not. The gallery 'noctiluq' is not smart and is not found either. Thanks so much for your help. Another thing that sets Smugmug above all the pretenders.
