Focus Stacking in PS?

Can anyone explain to me how does the focus stacking work?

I realize that I am to use multiple layers in the PSD file.. but what next?

Do I delete the out of focus area? Is there a special tool to be used?

I'd suggest using layer masks to only reveal the pieces of each layer you want to keep.. better then erasing...more room for error.

If you have CS4 you don't need to do anything manual. No masks or anything. It's all automated with the Auto-Blend Layers command. (You can do Auto-Align Layers first if they need to be lined up.) I was going to post a link to a tutorial but there are so many of them...just search the Web on "extended depth of field cs4"
