I have been oublished a few times. Nothing big(but it was fun). Each time it has been someone seeing my pic somewhere and asking to publish it. This can't be the only way it happens! I've looked into it a bit, and have found only vague references to Getty, istock and "submitting shots to magazines. How does it really work, is there a strategy one can employ to get more exposure? Told you it was a noob question.:D

Decide where you want to be published and study all the material online and inprint about where you want to be published and practice...practice.....practice.......calendars and landscape fine art can go together....so while trying to get good shots for calendars you can try getting enugg landscapes for an art gallery showing or to sell at farmers markets and summer art shows in your area...............
I'd just like to add that there are numerous smaller publications which will accept and publish images, especially with a story connected to them. They don't pay very much at all but, it is a way to build up a resume and portfolio. The very best portfolio to have is a portfolio of your stuff which has been published.
