I am just new..new to photography (well 2 years new) new to Digital Grin. So I will try and mess up my first post. These are some of the better pictures I am getting I think they are pretty good though any feed back would greatly be appreciated. Typically I am not a great editor so they are as they are shot with the exception of noise ninja which I loaded the camera profiles and it does it's thing.763734578_ggdYg-X3.jpg

    Welcome to DGrin!

And what a great way to start with an awesome shot! I never get shots like this because the players I shoot cannot jump that high...

Looking forward to more from you.

    Hi,

You did a lot better than I did on my first post. None of my pictures posted and a kind DGrinner posted them for me in his reply! Your shot looks really good!

Sweet shot!!! I love the angle up at him. Nice and clear also. The color is also good.

What were you shooting with and did you use a flash?

Dang, those are nice. Very impressed with the clarity at 1.4. Are you shooting with a Full or Crop Body?

Thanks, I have tried many different lenses and never can get past how dark 2.8 is. Depth of field is an issue though I look for the gloss in the eyes and don't worry about the rest at this point.
Shooting with a crop body not sure if full frame would be fast enough.

I'm totally new - just got a camera last month. These are fantastic. bowdown.gif
I'd love to know more about all the settings you are using. Many of my photos are not completely in focus. Parts of the players are crisp but not all. What do you have the autofocus set to?

I shoot Canon so things are a little different. I use one point of focus with centered metering, I shoot in manual, white balance and adjust the iso and apeture so that I can get 1/1000th of a second and then I shoot just a little hot on my meter as opposed to having a correct exposure. I also shoot jpg for processing takes to much time. For me depth of field is my weak point depending on light I will shoot usually at f1.4 which is narrow so you need to be on target or you will have alot of pictures shy of clear. The biggest issue is lighting this gymn I shoot iso 2500-3000 I like 2000 better and of course if there was a place where I could get below 800 that would be exciting. Not at the highschool level. One reason I shoot a little hot is because at highschool you are always stuck with a white uniform and then a dark one. I have friends that shoot shutter priority though I can never get the same picture. I can tell you that most people do not like the large f stop and prefer to shoot with a 2.8 lens. Everyone has their thing and I can just not get the same picture at 2.8 as I do at 1.6 or 1.4 I have found that 1.2 you have many missed focus and then if the eyes are glossy the ear is just shy of focus.
    Good luck hope that helps.
