First Baseball of the year

First baseball of the year shot about 2 weeks ago in Minnesota. These all were taken with the 7D, 300/2.8 IS, ISO 5000, 1/2500s normal noise reduction in camera. No outside noise reduction applied! They do clean up real nice with a light pass through Noise Ninja though. Just thought folks might want to see what the camera can do, not the software.

I tried to pick something a bit out of the ordinary for shots rather than stock action except for the first few shots.

#1 180 degree pano with 7 shots.

#2 Close play!

#3 Easy play

#4 Where is his arm!

#5 Stock BOB (ball on bat) shot. Had a few today, unusual for early season shooting for me.

#6 Just a different framing with the pitcher looking the runner back and the first baseman included.

#7 Unusual slide and tag into second.

#8 Just a bit wide on the throw to first.

#9 And last, following the catcher to grab a pop up in front of the plate and the pitcher came in and scared the heck out of the catcher to make the catch! Fooled the guy with the camera as well as you can see.

Good stuff!! So happy to see baseball!! I like the pano. I do liek the framing with the pitcher waching the runner. Like #9 too.

What are they going to do with the Metrodome? Eventually take it down?

Love #9! Those are the pictures that really make me love getting out there again and again to try and capture that split-second moment of great action/surprise/emotion.

    Is that the SMSU Mustangs?

At the rate we are piled up with snow down here in SW MN I won't see any high school baseball until May!!:cry First game is April 6 and I can't imagine all of this snow being gone by then.

double_d - I don't know what will become of the Dome. It is awful busy from Feb to April for round the clock college baseball.

MNGirl - That is the Mustangs playing UMD. They will be outside and playing in April, especially in Marshall. I've been shooting college baseball the last 6 seasons and I've shot in everything from tropical heat to snowstorms. Outdoor college and high school baseball seasons in Minnesota is always an adventure!

Don't know why I never thought of going over to Marshall and doing some photography of the Mustangs. That would be some great practice for me! I'll have to keep that in mind. I'm only 30 miles or so from there.
