travel photography - postcard shots - sometimes, you have to! and hey, that's ok. i find most of them boring, but my wife wants them for the photo albums, so i shoot them anyhow - you know, the same shots that every other tourist gets - we all have 'em :D

what i *try* to do when faced with a common subject, is to shoot it in an uncommon way. i have lots of "standard" shots of big ben, but tonight i was trying for that something "different."

here's st. james' tower, aka big ben to most of the world

30792462-L.jpg

i really dig this one, it shows big ben, and the architectural details that one sees all over this magnificent city:

30792464-L.jpg

incidentally, that first shot has extended range, i shot it in raw, developed two exposures, one for the phone box and one for big ben and the sky - that's all explained here.

enjoy (tourist) photography,

the 2nd shot is awsome. I do like the first shot but I think the glare on the right side of the telephone booth is kinda distracting. Is the bottom right of the telephone booth out of focus or is it blurred because of the aperture of the shot? With that said, it is still a lovely shot and nothing I would have thought of. Thanks for sharing it.

Andy you always seem to have great shots. I love the reflection of the tower in the window. It's great. Beautiful colors!

The second shot is cool. I can't say that the first one grabs me and unfortunately I can't say why...

Cool idea and execution in the first. In the second Big Ben is luminescent - looks great!

The second one is drop dead gorgeous. The first one is pretty nice too, although it'd be more "London" than "Ben", since you have two trademark british subjects together in the frame. You must have had great light, since last time I saw Ben it was a dull old man, looking nothing like this lush yellow-brown standing figure.
enjoy being here while getting there

I thought I'd read somewhere they'd tried to limit photography in Trafalgar Square? Sounds ludicrous, I know..... ne_nau.gif
