A Little Hero - C&C please

I am one of the photographers for the Littlest Hero organization. A couple of weeks ago I did a shoot for this little 11-month-old boy and his family. Nathan has a serous heart condition that necessitated open heart surgery at the ripe old age of 5 days, and another at 5 months after which he suffered cardiac arrest.

To see this joyful little boy you'd never know that his life is a series of medications, needles, examinations and procedures. And his parents are just amazing.

Doing this photo shoot was probably the best experience in my career.

He is one year old today.

C&C on the images would be appreciated as I want to improve my portraiture skills.

What an inspiration! Children just seem so much more resiliant than adults don't they! I'm not sure commenting on the technical aspect of the photos are important here especially as you've captured the smiles of both the little boy and his parents.

But as you asked...! My personal preference with portraits of children is to really fill the frame so I would have been tempted to shoot at the little boys' eye level (straight on) on #3 showing perhaps just enough of his mum's arm and shoulder to imply the hug is taking place.

Hope that's helpful but really, what fantastic pictures to have:)clap.gif
More practice needed but learning all the time!:rofl

I love #3 as is! Really shows the connection between mom and son. I'm also a photog for the organization, and actually have a 1st birthday shoot tomorrow...I can't wait! Such a rewarding way to give back!

Only because you asked for it, the first image is a little soft, likely a bit more dof would have helped. That being said, all of the images are emotional and moving. Great job!clap.gif

Thanks everyone - for the support and the helpful comments. I loved doing the shoot and meeting such an amazing family. I spent about 2 hours with them, shot over 200 images, and was fortunate to capture some intimate moments between and among them.

Not too surprisingly there were quite of few OOF images because I had tears in my eyes. Ooops, bad me. But sometimes it's a reminder that we've been given a talent and a skill and can share it with people to whom it means something more than we'll ever even know.
