Locked Gallery Style

What the heck, I just went into one of my keyword galleries and it's locked in
the new Journal style. Where is the Style picker? It seems to have
disappeared in the Popular gallery also.

I think we figured out a long time ago, that for popular and keyword galleries, Smugmug looks at the first image in the gallery and decides whether it comes from a gallery that allows user-controlled styles. If it does, then it shows the style picker. If that gallery is locked, then it doesn't show the style picker.

All my galleries with keywords and popular source are locked in Smugmug style.

I had just changed one gallery to journal (old) temporarily but locked it back to Smugmug. Steps in gallery settings:
style to viewer controlled, picker to journal (rats, wanted old)
style to journal (old) > tested
style to Smugmug
So somewhere in that, the style was picked up for KW and Pop?????

I'm not getting a style picker button in this keyword gallery, but the first image is from a gallery that does not have user-controlled style either (so it's following my proposed explanation):

http://www.photosbyat.com/keyword/flowers

If things are coming up for you in journal style, then go to a gallery that has a style picker and set it to Smugmug and then try again. Remember, Smugmug remembers your last chosen gallery style for that domain and applies it as the starting style if it's user-controlled (a design mistake in my opinion, but that's the way it works).

So, I've seen two examples that seem to follow the rule about the gallery that the first image is from. Do you any other examples that don't follow this rule?

I've had this problem with my keyword "galleries" for a long time. Luckily the style dropdown still shows on the popular screen, so I just pop over there and change styles, then go back to keywords.

Unfortunately that's really not a good workaround. I know enough to do that, but visitors to my site would never guess.

My public galleries are all locked into styles. Most are smugmug, a couple are journal, one is journal (old).

Smug really needs to put that style button back on the keyword screen.
I'm pretty sure there is a reported problem, don't have time to look right now.
