Some interesting stuff here, but to me there are two pictures:
1. The players
2. The Background
It's difficult to put the two together; I think they're competing with each other
Sorry, but I don't like the shadow beheading the player on the left…
There's no shadow detail…
I don't know what I'd have done; most probably got in closer, or zoomed in…
I'm seeing some weird thing about the verticals; look at the jaggies on the hinge-lines on the windows/doors; almost looks if it's been scanned and the columns are slightly out of registration (think random horizontal shifts on a ink-jet printer)
I also liked the shadow, it caught my eye. In my mind I imagined a story where the elegant gentleman in darkness is the devil, and the hunched-over fellow on the right has wagered his soul on the outcome of the game.

I noticed the "registration lines" in full screen on my monitor as well. Fwiw, the remainder of the composition was intentional, plugged blacks and chopped head. Maybe it didin't work.
Here's an update with a slightly different crop and PP.

The very strong contrast between the two players got my attention right away.
light/dark as well as their opposing body positions.
The Geometry I saw only after looking longer.
If it were mine, I'd crop the foreground Foliage.
