Use a zip lock bag fill with water, with a pan deep enough, the deeper and higher you go, the higher the drop bounce. Punched a hole in the bag and let it drop. Lighting wise, I use wireless trigger, placing the flash opposite of the camera, you can try different angle to get different effect.
Pre-focus to the drop, and I suggest trying a simple drop, get the hang of it.
It took me 10 months to figure out this type of shot.
Interesting. I never thought of trying this with liquids other than water, but the higher viscosity(?) of milk would definately effect the look of the splash.
Did you dye the milk or is it the lighting that turned it so dark?

you can play around. This shot, it was the milk dropping into a bucket of water.

I really like the reflection in the "swell" below the umbrella. Great, crisp detail.
What liquid did you use? It looks a little murky.

John, milk, that is why the bubbles that makes it not clean. When milk drops into the water, it creates bubbles.

Troy - I just got my first DSLR camera and you are officially my idol. Your photos are amazing, the birds, the smoke, portraits, you rock.
Thank you so much for saying that. It is cold and rainy outside in FL. Good day to shoot waterdrop.
