Hi all!
So I was recently trying to set up my sales tax info, and choosing CA is not an option, and it mentions that we are not required to do this?
Why not? What am I missing here? Is it automatic?

That is correct.
When you set up your Smugmug account as a pro in California, Smugmug charges/collects the California Sales Tax on the product. They are paying you commission effectively and they are selling your images.
