I gotta say, the ones with all the guys in the shot feels better to me after looking at both cropped versions ne_nau.gif .

    Thanks for looking and commenting.

I like this one, focuses in on the expressions. However :D I also like the wider uncropped view
    just seems more .......... Joyous.

I like the original crop. I can conceive of the white-shirt guy laughing with the other two. Better story for me.

I too like the original with the guy in the white shirt included. He adds to the story.

The last photo of the readers is my favorite here. As a reader myself, I know that some of the most intimate moments of the "married life" is reading a good book next to each other. However, I don't like the power grid thing that is centered between them.

    Hi Andrew,
Glad the original works for you too. Just feels better and doesn't feel quite right with either guy cropped out of the shot.

I find their body language odd-to me it doesn't look so tender, so funny that you have a different take.

I thought about doing away with the power grid--but I try and leave my street shots unaltered, except for basic cropping, exposure, etc.--

When I enter it into the challenges though, I will likely try and remove it, but for posting here, I will leave it as is. I had a feeling the power grid was going to be an eye sore.

Very nice, Liz, but dial back the contrast a little to reveal better shadow detail.
    If not now, when?

I wouldn't worry about the transformer. Stories happen where they happen, and you tell this one quite nicely. That said, I'm not sure all that empty space at the top of the frame is helping you, and a much tighter landscape crop might help emphasize the sense of apartness.

Seeing modern shots of a vibrant South Beach always reminds me of Bill Frakes' wonderful work on what South Beach used to be, "Where Dreams Die." Some of the best of what Street and Photojournalism have to offer, you can get a small taste of it at:

You are going the wrong direction.
On 1 crop the balcony from the building across the street off the top. Leave all the people in, now that's a shot.
I like it. Love that style of processing.

First thanks for sharing Frakes' work with me---Shots 2, 4 and 5 are just something else. I can easily see the "where dreams go to die bit"--South Beach is an incredible place, but it sure does help to have some money.

I had both my kids with me, one in a stroller the other on a skateboard so I missed some great opportunities--but I did manage to get some and I will be posting them in the days to come--the place is ripe with possibilities.

Also, I agree with you in that I don't like to alter my shots to post in this forum by that I mean using the clone tool.

Having said that I did rework shot #3 with the older couple--I did clone out a bit of that power grid thing--but only because I'm posting it in the challenges section--I will show it here too for feedback. But it's not something I normally do---clone that is.

I took your advise and I must say I like this crop the most--the one with the balcony cut off.

    Thanks :)

I like this processing too--but sometimes I go overboard with the hight contrast:)

Ok reprocessed---cropped at the top and the contrast scaled back.

    798304341_YTept-XL.jpg

and the couple reworked--severely cropped and I confess to using the cloning tool:hide and also processed slightly different from the original.

I really like your new crop on the players, I preferred it with more contrast shadow detail is overrated, the high contrast gave it more energy, fine as is however.

The couples shot is too tight above their heads.
