harborside
a couple from lunchtime today. i didn't have much time... these are with my ir-modified sony f828 (*), maxmax xnite xdp filter aboard. this filter let's the camera see some of the blue spectrum. neither of these photos has had any blue (or any other color) added. the technique i used was generously explained to me by david moos (thanks!). i changed the master hue to -70 for the first and -40 for the second. both got red hue -28 and red sat -100. then levels adjustment (with a layer mask to) and some masking to get the colors just right.
i was really pleasantly surprised at the low noise of the second shot. once you start messing with the blue channels, i find the noise gets bad... shot number two responded really well to isox pro (fred miranda's) noise reduction really well, at setting number 5 (middle setting).
why the different color blues? different angles from the sun, and different scenes.
infrared is really really cool. i never get tired of experimenting with it! if you haven't tried it, i recommend it highly ;-) >

I would give my right nu... er molar to be able to take shots like that.
I am seriously considering a Drebel are there filters available for it?
And what sort of money are they IR filters?
I am IR illiterate.
Again great shots Andy.

I guess the D-Rebel is IR sensitive and there are filters that can be purchased to make it work. Now to find more info...
the prob with dslr ir is that their's no native ir mode, and so you have to guess at the exposures. and i mean guess. also, they are longish exposures, nothing like i can do on my modified 828 - can go to 1/2000th ;-)
advice? borrow a sony f717 (or 828) and put on the ir filters, and shoot a bit. if you like it, then buy a used f717 off ebay and have it converted by maxmax ($150....)

After viewing your images, I took the leap to have my Sony F717 converted.
Do you or anyone have a written workflow for doing the false color for the converted Sony F717? Appreciate your help.
Thanks,
Danny
it's been a while and now i have a different modded camera but i tell you what, i'll ask luben solev to chime in, he still shoots with a modded 717. stay tuned to this thread
oh and congrats!

Great shots! Or Very Good!
I kind of like the darker blue, but i don't know why, maybe because of the WOW factor.

Uh, I have a thread below, or above this, just put it on about a bird fight.
Could you please get someone to bump it? Or not.

I shoot with a MaxMax converted 717. It is great!!! Complete control over exposure, lower noise (due to faster shutter speeds) and sharper images + better DOF (due to ability to step down the lens).
