CPOL on WA lenses?

I'm looking at getting a Tokina 11-16 and need to get a bigger CPOL for the occasion. I'd like to get a Cokin polarizer because it would be easy to use with all my lenses, but I've heard folks talk about this system vignetting at wide angles?

So I'm therefore looking for a 77mm CPOL, and will get step up rings to use it on my other lenses. I've found this Heliopan. The specs say it's only good for lenses to 21mm and beyond. Is the solution to this problem to get an even larger CPOL and just always use step up rings??

I don't think it matters... but I'm using this on a crop body. From my understanding vignetting is just a function of the focal length of the lens, and doesn't matter what body its on, correct?

Thanks!! I appreciate any tips from folks with some WA experience.

Erik

thanks... saw that one, but didn't want to hi-jack it with my own question. I don't see anything about vignetting. I understand some CPOL have weird behavior at WA, but they're not talking about vignetting there I don't believe...

That is because they had already said to not use them on any lens of 28mm equiv on a fx body...so max would be around 18mm on a crop body......I have had no adverse effects using one on a 24mm fx lens...but that is only 4 mm less than the recommended 28.............it also said not to use when doing panos or using an Ultra wide angle lens and the 11-16 is definately an Ultra Wide Angle lens........................mwink.gifwinkmwink.gif

Ah, gotcha thanks, didn't see that last message there in the other thread. So people just don't use CPOLs with WAs?? I've become quite accustomed to using mine all the time...

Regarding Cokin filters on the Tokina 11-16mm, here are some tests using the Z-Pro size filters in a standard holder:

I believe that if you reversed the holder and used filters one at a time, it would probably be nearly vignette free at 11mm and free by 12mm or so.

I do suggest "thin" filters for use on superwide lenses. Cameras with a 1.5x crop factor will probably show a little more vignetting than 1.6x crop factor cameras.
