Panoramic Sunrise at Crater Lake

I drove down to Crater Lake on Saturday morning (about 8 hours from Seattle) and was photographing continually through sunrise on Sunday when I headed back home.

The forecast looked promising and I had always wanted to see Crater Lake in winter. The last time I was there was 20 years ago (when I was 10) in summer, I remembered the deep blue water and all of the human habituated squirrels (no squirrels this time, but the water was just as blue, even though it was partly covered in ice). My snowshoes came in handy.

I'll have more from this trip later (I haven't processed all of them yet), but I think this is likely to be the best shot, a pano taken at sunrise on Sunday:

Five horizontal shots at 24mm (f/16 ISO 100) stitched together in Photoshop. This is about 1/10th the size of the original.

WOW!!! Absolutely stunning!!! I have never seen crater lake from the ground. I have flown around it many many times, but never in the winter!! This is one for the wall buddy!!! Great shot!! I love it!

That is an absolutely amazing pano! Makes me embarrassed to say I only live about 2.5hrs away from Crater Lake and haven't found the time to make it up there. You have set the bar! Now for the obligatory Smiley

This is an absolutely impressive capture

The scene is tremendously beautiful, the lines take you right to the lake and then out to the sunrise, the water is great -- very well done!

As a side note, does it need straightening slightly? It may be the perspective and curve of the earth, but it looks a little tilted to the right to me?

That is a gorgeous capture of the lake! The reflections of color are wonderful.

We briefly visited while on a western US vacation in 2006, and it is truly a stunning sight. But the wintery in your shop really suits it well!!

WOW Ron this is fantastic!

Only problem is printing this thing will require an entire wall. Then again you could have your SUV wrapped in this image.

Awesome shot, Ron!! Looks much better on screen than on my phone!

I second Aaron's idea, wrap your vehicle in this shot. How cool would it be to see Crater Lake cruising down the highway!

Thanks for the comments everyone, I really enjoyed being there and got lucky with a great sunrise on Sunday. I'll probably have some more to post from this trip later.

I like this. Mostly because it is Crater Lake, a place I really liked when I was there. It's a pretty special place.

My only comment is the snow looks a bit blue to me.
