IS there a way to upload web galleries created in lightroom to smugmug? if so how? Thanks.

No, there is not. You can upload directly from LR using Friedl's plugin, and you can use our slideshows on SmugMug

That slideshow is not a smugmug slideshow.

You can use a non-smug slideshow but the show will need to be hosted elsewhere and referenced from your smugmug site.
