Eagles along the Mississippi
Took this one last weekend.....this was the first pictures taken with the new Sigma 150-500mm with Nikon D300s powering it. I know this isn't nearly as good as some of the others on here....I'm not in the same class as most of you....but this was by far the best for me up to this point! Loving the camera and the lens!

We need sometimes to escape into open solitudes, into aimlessness, into the moral holiday of running some pure hazard, in order to sharpen the edge of life,to taste hardship, and to be compelled to work desperately for a moment no matter what.

Thanks for the kind words Janicee....I have the first one blown up into a 16X20 which is ready for me to pick up, and I can't wait to see what it looks like!!!! I'm hoping to get out again next weekend for some more shots.
One question for everyone, how does one deal with the snowy background when taking pictures (like the one which the eagle is flying)? I have noticed that it makes it look overexposed in some cases. I do want white snow not grey so finding a middle ground is difficult for me right now. I noticed I lost a little detail in the eagle's white head.
I am still learning and want to learn more! So any c&c is welcome.
Personally, I'd crop them all closer to the bird, but that's just me.
I might try that and see what it looks like...I did think about it with the eagle sitting on the ice, but I really liked the water in the shot just slightly out of focus to create a little more character in the shot...but I will try it and see what it looks like
Thanks for the comments
Here is the pic
The cropped one does look a lot nicer.
where were these? near Alton Locks?
Was there last year taking photos, eagles everywhere.
These were taken just below the Genoa Lock and Dam in Genoa, WI
