Hi you'll,

I Have been hoping to get a decent shot of an owl for the longest time. There weren't too many in NYC. When I made my first trip to the Wetlands a year ago we saw an owl but he took off before I could get my 80-400 lens on my camera. Every time I've gone back to the wetlands since then I have gone back to the same place where I first saw that owl but he never returned while i was around.

Then last week there he was in the exact same spot I first saw him over a year ago. icon10.gif

    Congrats Harry.

Finding them in the wild is not easy. Some time back I saw a Great Horned Owl from a distance. When I approached close enough to get a shot, he was gone. I check that tree EVERY time I go back there even though it has been 2 years since I saw him.

    Ya never know.

That is great that you got a shot of an owl. I've only seen one in the wild my entire life. I'm glad you were able to get a shot this time. I guess it shows that patience is rewarded.

Thanks for the kind words Ben. I had to do some post work on the eyes in the fitst shot. They were almost completely black. I selected them with the magic wand tool and then adjusted them with the levels tool in PSCS.

Really good shots, Harry, fantastic. I expect that if I ever see an owl, outside of a zoo, it will be because a guide in a birders group points one out.

I do expect to go to more of those group things. Why they have them on Sunday morning is beyond me.

Interesting about PS CS post work on the eyes. I have never tried the wand specifically, I don't think, but with everything else when I try to select small stuff, it says "not enough pixels". Frustrating. I will try the wand next time.

    Great get, shooting and post!

How is the "post surgery" going, speaking of "post" work?:D

Ed, I think #3 would be a good choice for autograph and wall hanging. Looks kinda like Harry doesn't it?

Tell me about them no being easy. It looks like I'll see one every 12 months down here. rolleyes1.gif I was thrilled that I was able to get a few shots off before he left.

Them there pictures are a HOOT!! :D Nice shots Harry. My list of feathered creatures to "still" shoot is very long. I keep waiting, looking for and hoping to see some of the creatures to shoot. The owl is on that long list (along with eagles, hawks, osprey, super models in bikinis, etc.etc.)eek7.gif

    Cheers

    Hey Nick,

I was pretty happy as this was only the 3rd time I have ever seen an owl in the wild. It was a thrill to get a few decent shots.

Thnaks Ginger. The recovery is progressing, very, very slowly. I have a severe case of cabin fever and I need to get out soon and start shooting. The doc hasn't given me the green light yet but hopefully soon.
