Want to url access photos that are hidden with "hide photo" option

if I check "hide photo", I cannot view it even if I access it by the image URL. I was hoping it would hide the photo on the gallery, but allow to be seen if it was accessed with a URL. Can someone please confirm?

Sorry, hidden is hidden Both for the gallery and ext links.

If you want it hidden from the public, but available for direct linking, then your best bet is to put a copy of the image in an unlisted gallery and link to it there. Unlisted galleries are not shown in your gallery listing so the public will not discover it (unless you send someone a link to it), but unlisted galleries support direct linking to either the gallery or the images in the gallery.

I actually have a couple unlisted galleries that are explicitly for the images that I want to link to on external sources (like forums, blogs, etc...). That way, my public gallery organization is 100% independent from the images I've linked to on the net and I am free to reorganize or change my public galleries without every worrying about unintentionally breaking images I've linked to outside of Smugmug.
