Pocketwizards and the Canon 5D Mark II

I was thinking of getting a FlexTT5 and MiniTT1 for my Canon 5d Mark II. I really like how less bulky they are and how a flash unit can be mounted on the FlexTT5 without any extra cables/velcro/straps/brackets/etc... (unlike the Plus 2 units).

However, I've also heard that the Pocketwizard Plus 2 is a lot more reliable than the FlexTT5/MiniTT1 combination on the Canon 5D Mark 2.

I'd like to hear peoples experiences with various Pocketwizard setups and the Canon 5D. Are there reliability/consistency issues?

By the way, I plan on using a Vivitar 285hv flash unit with my setup.

Thanks in advance!

    On Canon 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, 5DII ....

I've used the PW Plus II for the last 3+ years with virtually no issues.

I recently had the opportunity to try out the FlexTT5-Canon on a 5DII for a short time. Mounted a 580EX on the transmitter and used a Plus II for a receiver on a manual strobe. It simply "just worked" - no problems at all. Granted the test was only for about an hour or so, but .....

Does the FlexTT5/MiniTT1 support ETTL manual flash control like the 580EX II does? According to Rob Galbraith they didn't when he wrote his review. Lack of that would be a showstopper for me. Evidently the RadioPoppers do allow it.

The holy grail for me would be full automatic ETTL control when I want to use it. However, for studio work, I would also like to shoot fully manual flash, but leverage the ETTL manual power controls of an attached 580EX to remotely control the power output of attached ETTL slaves. That would give me remote control over key light and fill. I would also like to also use cheap Vivitar flashes as hair and background lights. These would fire at the same time, but obviously require their power output to be adjusted at the flash units themselves. I believe the FlexTT5/MiniTT1 would NOT solve this scenario, however the RadioPoppers will.
