Flash compatably

since im new here i hope this is the correct place to ask.i have a older model vivitar flash 285.is it compatable with my Canon Xti DSLR i haven't tryed it.will it fry my camera.really can't find anything on this issue.

    The 285HV is safe, the 285 is NOT.

    Easily made safe with a Wein Safe Sync or by using an inexpensive RF wireless flash trigger................and usually the flash triggers are less expensive than the Wein Safe syncs................
