Anyway to show galleries and categories in a section without separation?

I have all of my landscape photos under the general category 'Places'
If I group some galleries under a subcategory such as 'Washington, D.C.' which includes, DC, VA and MD, I find that I have to create a subcategory for all galleries. If not, a gallery without a defined subcategory is separated from the others and does not look as 'clean'. Any suggestions on how to fix this or does this warrant a feature request?
