Caught a guy practicing on a lake today. Couldn't believe the ice was still 2 feet thick.
Enjoy...

Looks like he was having fun but this one and the others in your gallery look underexposed.

I have to disagree with you. Here is the histogram of the posted photo:

For a photo with that much ice in it, I would expect to see a peak of the histogram much closer to the right. Let me ask you a question - is the ice really that gray? I hope not. I think you camera is getting fooled by the the higher reflective of the ice and underexposing.

Hmmm, I guess I better send my sekonic in to get re-calibrated then! See, here's the thing, It's exposed to not blow out the highlights. If the ice happens to be that colour, due to the angle of the sun, then so be it. I wasn't shooting the ice, I was shooting the motorcyclist. The ice was not the subject. I have looked at your other posts, and quite frankly, you are quite the party pooper! I have seen very few of your posts that don't criticize this or that. Sometimes, it's better to say nothing at all. You are now added to MY ignore list. Good Day!

I agree with Mike. Try bringing your white level closer to the whites in your histogram. Maybe repost an adjusted pic?

Humm...not sure how to react to this. One of the basic premises of these forums is to learn from each other - not just pat each other on the back. If you are happy with these photos, then fine. I still think they are underexposed. Let's see what others have to say.

Good find Mike. Even though there are blown out highlights, it still looks white, and we don't need to see texture in those areas. The subject is the most important.

I especially find that I need to bump up my metering in ice rinks by almost a full stop, and even then I find the need to crank exposure up in PP. The histogram for this photo is nearly pegged on highlights:

I take it that's what is happening in the ice racing photos. Just so much white!
