How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
I didnt know we had such creatures in this area.
Luckly I had the 400 with 1.4 extender on

I wondered if that was what you were using. Come to mama...........300 is working fine.
On the Green Heron, I have shot them on several occasions, they seemed to show up here about a month ago. Sometimes there has been too much vegetation to get a good shot. I mean "not nice looking vegetation". Yours is fantastic. I love the perspective. Did you get down to shoot up, or was the bird up? My birds have always been down. I got good shots on two occasions. They were not that far away, but they are not that big are they.
I was surprised.

300 plus 1 1/4 extender, working fine!
This was only cropped a tad to straighten something a bit, I did not have a lot of room to fit birds into my lens, most of the time on Saturday where I was. But this would be equivalent to the 400. How are things going?

I will own one or the other, not both, I am sure. Can't afford, am building slowly, just ordered a flash. Would buy 1.8 85 from dgrinner, if I hadn't bought the flash, that one seems good. No money left.
You will have to tell me how to tape the whatevers in order to use the AF with the 1 1/4 extender.
That is really the best green heron I have seen here. Book/magazine quality. I think that is one of my favorite birds for photography. You got the light, the folliage and perspective, with the EC exactly on, etc. The only thing wrong with the bird is it appears to be seasonal here, and a wimp to boot. My corgi would stick around longer.
Hint, everyone, if the bird stays perfectly still and you stay perfectly still, though you can try to sit down, the bird thinks he is invisible. Seems to a thing of the bird/animal world. But you can't walk around for best perspective for the most part..........stay still and hope the bird moves. That has been my experience.
