Snowboard Carving in Stratton

Snowboard carving is sort of the recreational version of what the GS racers do that you may have recently seen in the olympics. I went out to Stratton for the East Coast Expression Session a week ago and spent a bit of time photographing. Here are a few shots.

1. Stratton got about 3 feet of snow the week before, so the conditions were more like the west. The snow coverage on the trees was incredible.

3. The europeans do something they call extreme carving. It's more of a laid out turn.

4. They held a little 360 degree carved turn contest. Unfortunately, the spot they picked wasn't quite ideal. A fey guys made it around, but technically not carved the whole way.

7. This is Bruce Varsava; owner of Coiler Snowboards. Bruce and I are two of the 3 guys in north america that manufacture race/alpine/carve boards. Nobody ever seems to get any photos of me riding, but I have several of him.

Thanks Mike. Perhaps I'll get to USASA Nationals this year and shoot some races.

This was my first trip to Stratton and second riding on the east coast. I was expecting some really hard conditions, but the 3 feet they got the week before made it a very unusual week for the east coast. I had a blast.
