Trying not to embarrass myself too badly here.:D C&C Welcome. Reshoots unlikely.
Decided to focus on the feeling of longing or desire/dreaming of another place.
I hope one of these is close:
#1
#2
#3
#4
#5
#6
Thanks for looking.

It is never to late to become what you might have been.

I like #1, although I like the way he's holding the book in #5.
Chris
When you come to a door... walk through it.
If it's locked... find an open window.
#6 for me--I like the melancholy look, reminds me of bitter-sweet memories, regrets, missing home.
Not sure that's what you intended--but that one is more powerful for me.

I actually liked #6 a lot myself, til I zoomed in and saw that I misfocused. :cry Sigh.
I think I like 6 this best, despite the technical problems. For second place, I like #3. I can't quite put my finger on why #3 over the others, but I do like it more than the others.
One nit I can find is the outlet on the wall behind him. Once I saw it, I can't un-see it and it's not really an important element. It's a small nit, so maybe I'm just crazy, but I'd give cloning it out a shot if you can. Along a similar line, I think you should keep the picture frame in the top left corner of most of the shots. It seems to define that there's a wall there and not a void without interfering with the other elements.
Overall, I like your concept on these!

I also like #6 with the more distant look in his eyes.
But the one thing that bothers me in the image is difference in color temperature between the background and how his face is lit. It unfortunately has me wondering more about what the light source is, rather than enjoying the image itself. It 'models' on him very nicely as it wraps around his face; and creates drama and depth with the shadows, but the color temperature is 'white' and just a bit un-inviting.
I apologize, because this may be a creative choice on your part. But if not, I wonder what it would look like if you warmed it up a bit in post mimic-ing a warmer, more inviting light found at sunset.
Good Luck!

Froch--
No need to apologize. I now have to rethink #6, focus be dammed. (I'll say it was a creative decision on my part. I was going for a soft, dreamy look. Yeah, that's the ticket!)
Interesting note about the color temperature, because I warmed it up a lot in post. (Dialed in about 7500k, +10 magenta.) Perhaps I was too timid?
wow, that's not timid.OL you did dial alot in. ) I really like the shot and concept.

The current one or the #6?
I'm a bit frazzled today, sorry.
The current entry, because his face shows him so serene and pleased with his beautiful dream.
