Local stores

I'm not sure if this belongs here or not but I'll try it anyway.

I live in Willowbrook, IL, a suburb of Chicago. I have been trying to find a good local store to shop at. I have a 20D so I am interested in Canon products. The only stores near me that are official Canon dealers are Ritz camera and a family owned shop called LaGrange Camera and Video. I have been going to LaGrange Camera and Video because they are knowledgeable and often have equipment in stock that even some of the big on-line stores don't. The main downfall is that on some items they can be quite expensive.

So I guess my question is: Is there anyone in the Chicagoland area that can suggest a good local photography store?

Thanks
Nick

Gosh, there have to be a bunch in a city the size of Chicago. Of course, travel time would be a big deal.

Until all online retailers start charging state sales tax, however, I don't think you'll find a local store that can match internet prices. The day is coming, however....

There are other stores I have been to but they have basically just sucked :puke . I'm was just wondering if anyone in the area knew of any "good" places to shop locally.

It actually sounds like you have already found one. It should not be too surprising that the stores with the lower prices don't have the stock, experience, or knowledge that the other store has. Nor should it be surprising that you will pay for that stock, experience and knowledge. Just my two cents.

That's kinda what I figured. Don't get me wrong, I do like the place I have been going, I just wanted to widen my options a little. Thanks mercphoto.

One of the country's largest photo dealers, Calumet Photo (www.calumetphoto.com) got started in Bensenville, Ill, and still has a retail store there (as well as in Chicago proper, on Goose Island, I think).
