I am done trying to develop a website for photography.

I think I am convinced SM has a nice product but i'd like to hear some pros and cons .

I am considering either a POWER or PRO account.

I have the time to shoot and go to the color lab but building a nice website is sadly, barely too much for me anymore right now...

thanks in advance.

SmugMug offers a lot to all account levels. Yes - there are many features that I would love to have that don't yet exist. Yes - "building" a site that is unique here at smugmug can take some doing. You could, if it i worth it, hire a customizer and get them to do it for you, too. But, overall, the customer service is top-notch, the sites work well, the print guarantees are great.

If you are planning on selling images at a markup you will need a pro accout. The Pro account also allows bigger individiual images (24MB vs. 12MB). Good summary of all differences here:

vdotmatrix, If you want to sell you go pro,If you're not selling power has everything you need. I have never been on a computer in my life except for the last 45 days and I was able to set up everything from cart branding to prices, well everything. I have not made the site look beautiful yet but if you have even a little computer knowledge it would be a snap for you. The staff here is not like anywhere else they get back to you same day and usually within 2 hours on every dilemma you may have. GOOD LUCK BUT I THINK MOST ARE HAPPY HERE.OH AND YOU CAN ALSO GET A DOMAIN NAME WHICH WORKS GREAT.

Just to reinforce your decision .. I had a site on another forum, I found Dgrinn while looking for "ways to make eyes pop". I LOVED the " Your photos look better here" They do!

I am an empty nester, noobie to photography, want to learn and earn $$$. I joined. My under 30 daughter works for a "boutique" PR company in Scottsdale Arizona. A trendy place to say the least, they have discerning clients. They have a free lance photographer, charges $100 an hour, 2 hour minimum, and he gets the photos back to them same day to proof. HE USES SMUGMUG! I say, BINGO!! thumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gif

The people here are so helpful, even if you did decide to customize your site, look at my site and I know hardly anything about html or css (should say knew because I have learned a lot). This site has taken me a month or two to do, but that is with having a job and being a full time student. So one big advantage is the community.

Not to mention how helpful people are with photo editing and such as well. If you are selling, the print guarantees are really nice to have backing you up. Plus you can request new features on a voting system, forgot the link though.
