It finally happened. I dropped a camera. :(

I had the 10 - 22 Canon lens on and it snapped the mount/barrel. No damage to the glass.

I'm still sick. :(

Here's a couple of photos.

So sorry to hear about and see this. Unfortunately there can also be hidden damage inside the lens. Hopefully Canon service and repair can help.

Ouch... I am taking it that the camera is still ok though?

Canon repair service can be pretty expensive but if they can fix it the cost will be less than a new one. You should send it in for an estimate.

    The camera is fine. 7D.
It just flipped from about 6 inches. The mass of the camera and battery pack were just too much stress for the barrel. The lens hood absorbed a lot of the energy.

    Damn it. eek7.gif

    sorry to see that. :cry

on the bright side, think of the lens sacrificing itself to save the 7D...it was a heroic thing to do. clap.gif
Canon 7D and some stuff that sticks on the end of it.

Good point, I am glad the lens wasn't thinking about itself when that happened. rolleyes1.gif

I did that recently to a Nikon lens. It was $275 to repair.

I had a similar thing happen to my 24-105L. It needed a new PCB and ribbon which cost $500. Not cheap but I considered that I use it 90% of the time so I paid for it. Haven't had any issues since (happened a year ago.)

Kudos to Canon. When I finally sent it in for an estimate, last week, I did so with a heavy heart. I was afraid that the $95.50 estimate fee was wasted.

I got it back yesterday! No additional charges! (just shipping) I'll run some sample photos in a bit.

    Wow.
