In February, we had the opportunity to spend 12 days in Auckland...our very first trip to New Zealand. Our preferred travel style is laid back and relaxed, taking time to see a location well and and enjoying the environment. We stayed in downtown Auckland and only a short walk to the harbour or Skytower.

Auckland is a vibrant city built on two natural harbours. Here we see Auckland across Waitemata harbour from Northcote Point.

Auckland is also called the City of Sails, can anyone guess why?

This trip had many highlights for us...Mudbrick Vineyards on Waiheke island:

The warbirds at Ardmore airstrip:

The birds on Tiritiri Matangi island...a wildlife preserve:

The surfboat competition at Piha beach:

And did I mention the Green Lipped Mussels?

I could go on but I'll stop here. My feelings for New Zealand after our first visit...I can't wait to return!

    It's really good to see you enjoyed our country, well a little bit of our country so much. :D
    And getting plenty of great photos along the way.

    Wait until you go south ;

    NZL is a pretty cool place. I still have my "Little Black Book About a Big Black Boat" and though I know he's not your favorite any longer, I have met Russell Coutts.
