Read all about it: http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2010/03/quantum-dot-images/

Anything with the word "quantum" in it sounds cool to me. :lol3

Hmmmm .... this could be exciting. Assuming the article is more truth than hype, an increased efficiency in sensitivty to light (from 50% of CMOS/CCD to 90% for this technology) could make for some very exciting ISO ratings; how does a virtually noise-free 12,800 sound to you? Or a usable 25,600?

On the other hand, wedding photographers may have a bit more compitition from the Uncle Bobs of the world with their $300 iPhone cameras.eek7.gif

But the "informed" shooters will still have light and lens advantages with their dSLRs and other interchangeable lens cameras. thumb.gif

It's true that the article only addresses cell phone cameras, but I didn't see anything to suggest that the technology couldn't be scaled up for larger sensors as well. ne_nau.gif
