Like the shot--hate the conversion. GRRRRRRRR!
I tried and tried again, this is the best I could do.

Any comments on the actual shot would be appreciated--feel free to tweak the shot for better results. Wondering why I can't get this one to please me:dunno .

What a great shot! Makes me wonder what she has (in her hands...) that is capturing their attention enough to stop their game.

On processing, I'm venturing that the black/white points (blacks too black...) or contrast is a little too much to give good skin tones, which is what this shot is for.

This is a fantastic shot! But it does look like you've backed yourself into a PP corner. I usually save whatever I've done at this point and create a new version from the master and reprocess to get the right result with the failed portion. Once I think I understand how each extreme works, I try to figure out how to make the two come together.

In this case, the blacks look good, but the faces look extremely recovered. What would it take to get the skin right? Rutt is the real expert in this area, but I'd be willing to give it a go if you want to send the raw file.

    Thanks Rainbow-
The littlest boy is mine, I think I will ask him--been dying of curiosity since I processed it all to hell.
I believe she had a cellphone in her hand, but these days they probably all have a cellphone so that can't be it.

I'm hopefully on the way to seeing this image properly converted. I like it very much for my "slices of life" thing I have going and I want to convert it properly.

Thanks for commenting and glad you like it.

I am relatively happy with the rest of the shots from that day--but this one had me :bash and :slosh .

Thanks for offering to work on the shot--I hope this is sufficient. Looking forward to the new and improved version--no pressure:D .

I'm a high contrast junkie so I really didn't see anything wrong with the first version except the
blown-out face of the boy (glasses, right over the girl's head). Now that you've posted the color
version, I see that it wasn't the processing color to black and white that did this.

Sometimes I get lost with the terminology here. What does Michswiss mean about the faces
looking too "recovered"? Is this to do with the effect of the recovery slider?

Here is my "shades of gray" PP version. I actually brightened it up slightly with a tad more contrast knowing your tendencies. Used PSE7, b & w conversion in portrait mode. Upped the red channel, decreased blue channel. Then set black point to deepen blacks, set white point to whiten some, but not completely.
