The annual Dgrin shootout is cancelled this year.
In 2005, we arranged a gathering at Yosemite as a way for Dgrinners to get together, hang, gab and learn from each other. While we had pros with us, our main objective was to enjoy the company of our friends and to see a great location. We've always tried to preserve this mission in following years, which became a challenge as Dgrin and the shootouts grew in popularity.
There came a point when the shootouts could no longer be managed by one person, so we made sure that committed, dedicated and responsible volunteers from our community held the reins. But we've found that a working team posed new challenges, ones that we weren't able to overcome in time for 2010.
We're all very disappointed that we won't have a shootout to look forward to this year. For those of you who already took time off for this, we hope that you can still make it to Yellowstone without us.

a true pity. My first shootout experience, at Acadia in ME last fall, was an excellent one. Although I wouldn't have been able to make this year's shootout anyway, I would hope that the project will continue in the future.
If anyone would like to help me organize a Maritime Canadian version for 2011, I'd be happy to lead the charge!

That being said, I think this increases even further the need for a wildcat shootout on this side of the pond.
You need: A great location, place or places for people to stay, available meal options and some idea of what folks want to shoot for the period. Your shoot could be a day, a weekend or a week. It could be the in the lap of luxury or self supported camping. It could be a small, medium or large group.
I know there are people here who have put together some small trips that have been pretty successful.
If you want to do it, do
You can bop on over to Location, Location, Location forum and let folks know the what what.
I kid, I kid. The shootout I went to in glacier was really well organized. Quite a feat given the number of people involved, the time of year, and the fact that we were in the boondocks. I also respect smugmug and dgrin's "if you can't do it well, don't do it" style of business. I just couldn't pass up a juicy opportunity to get in a dig about a European shootout.:D
I hope the shootout won't be permanently disappearing.
That's entirely up to the community. I'd gladly work with anyone willing to put in the time to make it happen.

Sorry to hear that this fell through. Hopefully, it wasn't for lack of help as I was told there were enough volunteers when I inquired.
