Watching a movie, and munchin' on some chips!

Hey guys,

Im new to Dgrin! Took this photo today, of my neighbors 3 year old. Used two strobes, 85mm f/1.8 and my 30D

What do you think of this?

    WOW I think you treat your neighbors pretty darn good!! The lighting seems a bit harsh, maybe too much light??

    For a more "natural" looking portrait the concept revolves around mixing the "ambient" light with the artificial light. This can be achieved quite easily with a flash on board (meaning in your hot shoe). Here is one such example and only post this to show the lighting. Your shot here displays evidence of overpowering light (see CL side hair). There are numerous threads here explaining the ideology, concepts and practices of ambient to artificial. Dependent on the look, where you want the light to come from, etc., is all game but for quick candids, flash on board does a remarkable job once you know how to do it.
