Recent shot I'm trying to work with. Can't seem to dial it into something.
Or if I should even place the call? :D

I think my BW's here are totally in trouble.
Am I too struck on the crop as the way to go? Anything else?
Some opinions would be nice. :bow:D

I think a crop that shows the whole body/position would be better.

    Colour is good

If you'd framed in the viewfinder, just think how many more pixels you would have had to play around with...

You have a potentially interesting subject, but maybe exploring different angles would have made for a better shot. Looks like you saw him and just took the shot, which is only of mild interest by itself. Explorating the situation might have you moving to the left (or right) and waiting for someone to enter the frame to see if there is or isn't any interaction.

Framed in the viewfinder. Didn't even cross my mind at the time. Dang it.
Maybe if I go to the Raw image the bw's will pop way more. They seem so
    lifeless. No depth.
    Thanks Wil. :D

Potentially interesting I think is telling it true. I took the picture just as you
describe. First three frames had other people in them but my settings were
wrong and they blurred. Fixed that and wasn't willing to wait for more
people to walk by. I did look for more coming but there wasn't. So I literally
fled away. Such was my desire to get away from just that group of
religious people. There were 4, each working a corner. My corner was a
young man passing out "Bad Bob" goes to hell pamphlets. I curtly
    declined on the
offer but my son wanted to know what it was so I went back and grabbed
one for him to see. Then grabbed the final shot and booked.
I'm pathetic in the trenches it seems. :cry
Which is to say I didn't storm the castle with my second holding my belt
to reign me in when getting to close to the action. rolleyes1.gif

Honestly, I think you're trying to make a snapshot into something special. I think you needed to shoot it differently from the very beginning.

What I'd like to see is this shot from your knees or even lower, from the "bible-side", using a wide-angle (maybe 17mm if you are using crop sensor, 28mm if full frame) and very close... he would take up most of the frame, so the bible is big and prominant in the top right, and he is standing "under" it. His arm would make an angle from center of frame towards top-right, with the bible at the top right corner. He would be either fully shown, or cut at the shins.

You found a very interesting subject, I'm guessing he would be there for a while, so spend some time thinking of the best way to compose, then take a couple shots. Don't be afraid so that you shoot from so far away! :0

Remember, for a better photo of a person, get closer. Then get closer.
