I recently bought this lens for sports and since most local sports are just now starting up I decided to take some pics of something different. All shot with a Canon 1D mark iv and 300mm f2.8 is. Let me know what you think...

Congats on wicked bit of glass.

I can't wait till the weather gets better and more opportunities present themselves to take mine out for a spin again.

I have found this lens to be as sharp as it's bigger Brother the EF400f2.8L IS. It works extremely well with a 2x extender. Add the favour of a crop sensor and you have a lot of reach at a reasonable weight and half the price of the 400 f2.8.

Phenomenal piece of glass. Look forward to seeing more of your shots.

I'm really looking forward to testing it with both the Canon 1.4 and 2x extenders. I have heard it takes them well..

I have a Canon 2X tc just about glued to my 300 F2.8.
The focusing slows down some, and the background can sometimes get a strange look to the bokeh.
You will also lose a bit of the great sharpness that this lens delivers, but, most of it will come back in post.

A huge crop from a 5DMKII. It was about 2400 on the long side after the crop.

The 1.4x on my 300f2.8 isn't noticeable at all. In fact unless you look at the EXIF data its hard to tell if the extender was used.

The 2.0x is a little easier to spot in certain conditions, but after some simple PP there is no difference. It's quite remarkable that a $400 piece of equipment can double the reach of a $5500.00 lens with little or no effect on the quality.

Here's a Canada Goose taken with the EF300f2.8 and the 2.0x extender. Canon 5D.
