After all the years here in Florida, today a bird I have never seen before appeared in my yard. Ned Steel told me that it is a female American Goldfinch.

I found this a little humorous, Ira.

With all the cool, varied, and abundant feathered creatures you have down your way...you post a pic of one that is as common as a blade of grass to me.

    Everything IS relative.:D

Well, they may be "as common as a blade of grass" here also, but I have never noticed them.......... I understand that they are now about to leave this state with their winter vacation ending.

I am sure you are correct when you say they are Gold Finches. I must say your Gold Finches anre nothing like ours and we have them all the year round. If you want I can post one of our Gold Finches and you will see the difference.
    Cheers

Post away Bob , I have seen some stuff from overseas with the same name and the bird looks completely different like even the robins. It's neat to see the varying looks of the same species from a far away area.thumb.gif

Hi I always ask permission to post pictures in other peoples posts as I don't want them to think I am taking over the post. Here are a few shots of our Gold Finches which as I said are here all the year round. Also you mentioned the Robin. It is different too. Hope you like these shots.
    Cheers

Nice shots of a beautiful bird, but it does not look like our Goldfinch at all. Your "Robin" also is totally different from what we call a Robin over here.
