My son just had his laptop stolen from a break-in at his new apt. He called the police, insurance company, bank, financial company. Any other suggestions? He had the last several years of TurboTax data on his computer.

What about a fraud alert with the credit bureaus? All the details in the tax returns would make identity theft pretty easy. Also, if any site passwords were stored on it he should probably change those as well.

    sorry to hear that. :cry

If that happened to me, I'd go "scorched earth" on all of my accounts and change as many passwords as I could.

    Examples:

Credit Cards. Call and have them reissued (in case he had any CC info on the laptop).

Email, bank account, Amazon, forums...any online passwords. Change them all.

Keep an eye on Craigslist for the laptop...many people are "smart" enough to steal, but not smart enough to sell the stolen goods discreetly.

Possibly even get all new locks on the doors. Who knows...if they didn't steal a spare key, they may have made an imprint of one and plan to come back later. If you're super paranoid, car keys could apply as well. (kind of extreme...but just throwing out ideas).

    Good luck!
Canon 7D and some stuff that sticks on the end of it.
