Here's a few ideas. Thoughts? Suggestions? They're all lame? :)

1) "Decay" - Having trouble with the PP to get the feel/mood I had in mind.

2) "Driftwood" or "Decay #2"

3) "Season's End" or something like that

Thanks for your feedback, Mike

I like the water textures in 2, but I think 3 fits the theme the best. Do you have a crop that includes more of the red building? Either way, I like the bold lines in that one.

I like #3. To really feel the decay in 1 and 2, I think you might need to shoot on a cloudy or rainy day.

Thanks for your opinions. I had shot #3 trying to keep the red building out of it, thinking it would be a distraction, but once I got into PP I started liking it too. I may have to go back up there if there is a nice clear day this week and reshoot with more of the red building.

Did a reshoot today. Here we go with more of the red house.
How does the sky look to you, OK or too much?

    Thanks!

    I like "Season's End" too

PS - I think the first one, maybe with some more textures and rust accentuated...

Hard to say, but I think I favor the original 'Season's End' a little more, mostly because I like the position of the dangling chair. It may be stronger to crop out the red building in that particular photo and if re-reshoot is not possible, as it is neither here nor there, and tends to distract rather than anchor the focal point, IMHO. The stump remnants are a great concept, but it might look better in b&w.

I like the red bldg..but you lost some sky space to the left that helped balance things.

This chair lift must still be operational since you got up there to shoot and the chairs are in different position with different numbers! This must be the beginning of downhill mountain bike season!!

FWIW..I like the stumps, but the water feature is so interesting that it pulls me away from the stump.

Thanks for all the feedback, definitely good ideas. I was able to shoot yet again today and we'll see what comes of it.

    Hey Mike!
My only thought would be to remember that fine balancing act of where you want your chairs to be positioned in relation to the uprights, cables and the building. In the first image you had a nice comp going with the chairs, but in the second image, they're slightly chaotic in their jux.
    Hope that helps

Yes, I liked the chairs a lot in the first shot as well. By the time I got back up the hill a few days later I think they were using the ligt to bring up supplies to close up the buildings.

Here's a shot that brings together everyone's input:

Also, here's a pair of shots under the previous concept of "decay". These do anything, or is the ski-lift "End of the Season" the better subject?

    Thanks!!

Boy I love the texture and color in the decay image. I'm just not smart enough to know whether that's decay or growth, if that makes any sense. Sorry! I know how C&C can just spin you around.
    Good luck!

Good point. Some kind of mushroom or fungus growing on a dead, decaying tree.

Brings up an interesting point about this challenge. The beginning of one thing is the end of something else, and the end is also a new beginning. Circle of life, etc.

    Thanks!
