Haven't been around as much lately, but still trying to keep at it. Looking for opinions on the following two ideas for the current challenge.

1.Tree's Demise

2. Take-off

Any and all feedback is much appreciated! Thanks!

You know I think this theme is gonna be really hard. I can see the theme in your photos.. but I wouldn't if I didn't know why you were shooting them. Make sense? But I like the Sunset tree the best!

These are both quite good! Sunsets are a particular passion of mine, so I really like the tree.

Birds in flight are tough, so I really like the bird.

I think the bird is probably better for the challenge. A bit of an unusual take on the challenge and a difficult shot done well.

I like the tree. If sunrise, it could be both beginning (of the day) and ending (of the tree).

I agree that this is another difficult challenge!

Thanks for the feedback, I was unsure of the sunset factor in the tree shot also, at least for the challenge, so I had another shot of the same tree from a slightly different angle and no sunset/sunrise factoring in, so curious what you think of this one.

    Tree's Demise (2nd option)

    Hey Karinthumb.gif
pic #3, Im thinking your image has the tones and mood working for it...
(works for the theme in my eyes. ) Have you any other versions of this?some with more Sat, some with more contrast in the clouds, maybe one with selective color like only blue remaining? Play around with it... What PP program do you use?
My only other suggestion is to try different framing...(can you get those clouds back on scene? or whip up some more with the snap of your finger?:D ) fwiw I think a landscape oriented view of this tree would work, to me its calling out to be a wide shot, but I don't know your scene so maybe that's not possible?

Pic #1, your first image of the tree with the sunset is sweet, framing and everything looks great, eek7.gif EXCEPT that bottom limb is intruding into that gorgeous background! Re-shoot and get yourself a little higher with a chair or something?

I see more of an 'end of day' to this image also. Still an 'ending' though and very nice one. The bird made me think of a vulture looking for an end of life victim!

Thanks for the response Aaron, I am just working off elements 7 for now, hoping to upgrade in the future. I played around with it some more and came up with this version, what do you think?

Funny thing is, is that is what I was trying for with this shot...and this bird does indeed have a fish in his mouth, sadly, it isn't visible unless I zoom in...I was thinking "Food Chain" as a title! I have more time to try for this idea, so we'll see! Thanks for your input!

    Karin,

I would go for one of the two initial tree shots. Whilst I see the issue of the lower branch cropping across the very nice woodland background in #1 it doesn't bother me that much, in fact I find that it frames that section of the image quite nicely. I would think end of the day rather than end of the tree for that particular image.

The second demise of the tree is also a very workable image but the final version is over cooked for me & looks unnatural. I too work with Elements 7 and perhaps applying a blue photo filter would go some way to achieving the effect Aaron is suggesting.

your new processing does show how the original pic is a little washed out compared...
and the new processed tones look interesting to me.

I am a bit late to this but I vote for the first tree with the sunset. Something is ending there.

Thanks Chris, that one is still an option, definitely haven't ruled it out
