I am going to the Grand Canyon and need help finding a lightweight and weather resistant slingpack that can carry atleast a D90, a Tokina 11-16mm, and a Nikon 70-300mm vr. Oh, and also hold a small carbon fiber tripod! I looked at the SlingShot 102 AW but it seems way too tight for the 70-300mm vr. All input is appreciated! :bow

I've got the Slingshot 200AW and it fits my D80 with a 24-105 attached, plus a 18-55, 55-200, 100-300, a flash, a homemade snoot, extra camera batteries, extra flash batteries, pen, pad of paper, and still enough room for a snack or two. Unfortunately, no way to readily carry a tripod. I do love the bag though!

Get a regular pack. the sling packs are great until you try to switch shoulders... On a hike of any length, slingpacks are not nearly as comfortable as a regular pack.

If I post it, please tell me how to make it better. My fragile ego can take it.

Can't speak for it on long hikes but would agree that Slingshot 200AW is a great bag and certainly comfortable on for half a day at a time (but will only hang off one shoulder as previously said). No easy way of fixing a tripod but I have managed to fix a monopod linked up through the straps.

I know it's a different set of requirements but thought you might find this previous thread useful too...

    HTH.
More practice needed but learning all the time!:rofl

    Nikon D50, 18mm-55mm, 55mm-200mm, 50mm f/1.8, SB800, LowePro Slingshot 200AW and other bits!

The 200 will hold the 70-300VR I have one and it fits nicely, dont have the 11-16 :cry :cry . I bungee a flash bracket to my 200, you can always do that with a tripod.

I have a similar question. I will be doing day hikes in Yosemite. They will be maybe as long as 8 hours, so I will need to carry water, lunch, possibly an extra jacket, slicker for the mist trail which will still be wet, and of course my gear. I have a D90 with the Nikon 18-105VR, 70-300VR, 35 f/1.8, and a Tamron 90mm macro. I also have a tripod, but it is fairly heavy and I may use a monopod instead. I am considering replacing the 18-105 and 70-300 with a single lens, but I will research that on another thread. No dedicated flash, but maybe I will invest in one before the trip. I have two sling bags, the (too small) Tamrac velocity 7x and the Lowe-Pro 200AW. Both were gifts and I have not yet hiked with either. For previous hikes I didn't have so much gear so I just used a regular backpack. Has anyone done similar hikes with the 200AW? Other than the tripod it will hold all my photo gear. I'm more concerned about comfort and the other stuff I will need on an 8 hour hike.

    Thanks,
    Barbara

I have a ThinkTank backback that I love. the padded shoulder straps are great as is the waist band for dispersing the weight. And, it holds a ton of stuff, including my 70-200 f/2.8 HEAVY lens, no problem. Has a rain cover. And there are straps for attaching a mono or tripod. Love mine.
