i just love this shot, it's dawn on the hudson river, at peekskill, ny. about 40 miles north of nyc.
well, the land trust alliance liked it too, and so they'll be using it on their website and for promotional purposes.
of course, they wanted it for free ("we're a non-profit, we don't have budget, blah blah blah....") to which i say "sorry! there must be something you can pay... and so we worked out a deal where they still wrote me a check but i was able to cut them a deal as well - i happen to favor the organization.
my message? never give it away for free :deal

May I ask how they found your photo? I'm just starting into the self promotion game. The dampness behind my ears gives it away.:D
ginger (tis and always has been a lovely shot. But dawn? I should get back to it.)
they told me they found it via google.

I'm ALWAYS giving stuff away free.. I have no confidence in my work what so ever.. I rarely think my stuff is worth anything... whats a girl to do????:uhoh
Husband has to negotiate if money is involved.. hate the stuff actually, I think it destroys creativity..(I don't believe I'm saying this.. good job I have dh or I'd be living on the street) I did charge $50 an hour for creating and maintaining a web site for two years tho..rarely did I bill the full amount. Does anyone else have problems with money????? come on fez up. And those who dont?? how do you do it.
Lovely composition and soothing colors.
Mystic dawn or cool dusk feel.

Then I get myself all worked up so I can give a reasonable quote instead of the cheap one. It's still hard though...

I am doing a job right now for free that I would have charged for but could not...it's a long story see here
Have to get it done by Sept. hope to post the results.
Most of the time it's for a friend or family so hard to charge.
It's hard to know just what to charge still haven't picked the book "Pricing Photography" yet so that might help.
I think I just need to have more confidence in what I do.
And the rest will follow (I hope):D

I think this is the hardest thing: believing so much in yourself to actually charge... Our photography is only worth so much in reality as people WANT to pay what we ask... I was talking to a gal last week on a fair, her stuff was really lovely, her asking prices were very democratic, yet she did not sell.
It seems that people find it hard to pay for photographs.
I followed a class with Annabel Williams, and the first thing she said was charge and charge good.
I think if you start charging, that your photographs must be worth it. I have days that I feel I am not up to charging, my pics are not good enough.
(I also give out freebies, because I just love photography and love the looks on people's faces when they see what you did).
Interesting thread... it should be on its own...
