What's The Catch?

I see a 4 GB Hitachi micrdrive, a Compact Flash II design, is selling for $219 after rebate, at a reputable online retailer.

What's the catch? This is essentially the same price as a 1 GB Lexar 40X solid state CF card.

rolleyes1.gifrolleyes1.gifrolleyes1.gif 2 weeks old. But it's OK. Once it goes in there, it never comes out until garbage time.

Why have you got 2 thermostats in there ?

The real question is how do you survive on a few jams & chutneys ?

No the real question is why does "2G" look like "4G" to some people.

Now there's a question I can answer. Some people read the copy.

Hitachi’s new Microdrive 3K4 digital media marries its go-anywhere size to 4 GB’s of record-it-all storage.... At 4GB, it’s four times bigger than its predecessor and much more economical than standard flash memory.

Good catch, I actually transposed the numbers in the title, 3K4 2GB.

A little known condition called dsylxeai.

Still, remarkably cheap. I assume this thing would work in a camera, although they don't seem to mnetoin it. ne_nau.gif

In mine, one is for the refrigerator and one is for the freezer.

Actually the price is the same on both Adorama and B&H. I know cause I will buy one as soon as my new camera ships. So I was looking at the price already.

What Patch said, 1 for freezer and 1 for 'fridge. Good eye on the chutney. I eat out waaay too much, single man, no SO. You're right, actually, it will kill me. In fact, I can't type with my left arm, the shooting pains are so bad.... but I'm sure it will pass.

I bought a 4Gb Hitachi card in early May on the recs of people on this board and the fact that Michael Reichman has used Microdrives for all his digital SLRS for some time.

All the images I shot at Antelope Canyon were shot on my 4Gb Hitachi Drive in a Canon 10D.

I recently spent two weeks in Colorado - sleeping at 8000 feet and going as high as 14,000 twice, and over 12,000 several times. The Hitachi MicroDrive worked just fine - I came home with about 1800 seperate RAW files which I will have to begin post processing in the next few weeks. The only negative to the MicroDrive that is regularly noticed is that it is slower to write to than fast Compact Flash..... I have three 1 Gb compact flash chips that get much less use now, as the 4 Gb MicroDrive is so darn convenient.

Welcome back! I look forward to seeing your shots. I was wondering whether or not the microdrive was slower. One other drawback -- 1800 photos!! :eek1
